Welcome to The Eucharistic Community

St. Mary, St. James, St. Francis Xavier

We are a Roman Catholic parish community within the Archdiocese of Toronto, with three churches located in Tottenham, Colgan and Achill, Ontario.

Coronavirus COVID-19

Given the present situation, we have lots of information to share and will be updating regularly. Please visit our Covid-19 page for more information, online resources, details of where to find the celebration of daily Mass online and on TV, how to join a Rosary prayer group in our parish community and information from the archdiocese.

All celebrations of Holy Mass are cancelled, both on Sunday and weekdays. Archbishop Thomas Cardinal Collins grants the faithful dispensation from their Sunday obligation. Perpetual adoration is also suspended.

Check the Upcoming Events section below where virtual and online events and resources will be available from time to time.

From the Archdiocese

Here is a reflection from Cardinal Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, related to the pandemic, sacramental restrictions and planning for a return to sacramental life. In the communication, His Eminence references a number of working groups that have been planning for the days and weeks ahead as we all look forward to when our churches will be open for worship. Thank you for your continued patience. We join in collective prayer, anticipating the day that we may all be together once again.

Please take a moment to view the letter from Cardinal Collins here.

Mark Hart and Emily Wilson host LIVE: Altaration Family Night

Starting Wednesday, May 6th at 8 PM, join Mark Hart and Emily Wilson for a 4-week exploration of the Mass from Ascension Press.

With the public celebration of Holy Mass suspended, we’ve been separated from the most awesome gift of all, the Mass and the Eucharist. Perhaps we don’t fully appreciate a gift until it is taken away from us. You are invited you to explore and unpack the mystery of the Mass through a special live, four-week series with Mark Hart and Emily Wilson. Each Wednesday in May, they’ll be leading us in a brief thirty-minute experience of prayer, music, and discussion around the source and summit of our Faith: the Mass and the Eucharist. Come together for a fun and engaging night for the whole family.

Be sure to tune in to Ascension’s Facebook page to watch the first session! Those without Facebook accounts can still watch by tuning into our Facebook page. No login is required! The free Altaration Family Guide that goes along with the series will be available from Wednesday, May 6.

Covid-19: Please see the Cemetery section on our Covid-19 page.

The cemetery at St. James Church is a special and holy place. It has served as the burial ground for the Catholics in this area for many generations. It is a large cemetery located behind the church.

The cemetery now has a new Columbarium. There are a number of niches available to choose from overlooking the historic and quiet church grounds. The surrounding countryside offers a scenic setting to remember and visit your loved one.

Memorial urns are also available for purchase for your convenience. We offer both single and companion urns in a modest selection of cultured marble designs. For more information contact the Parish office.

Please be reminded that all stand-alone wreaths are not allowed on cemetery grounds during the period of April 1st through October 31st. Also, we ask all lot owners to remove any item which could pose a safety hazard for visitors and maintenance staff or cause damage to equipment. Prohibited items include: glassware, ceramics, metal rods/hooks, lawn ornaments, toys and stones. We appreciate your co-operation in helping to keep our cemetery safe.
